ReZoom Implantable Lenses for Cataracts Patients
Renowned eye surgeon Dr. James S. Lewis offers ReZoom intraocular lenses (IOLs) to his cataracts patients in Philadelphia, Bucks County, Montgomery County and the surrounding area. ReZoom is a multifocal IOL that can restore vision at various distances. Many patients choose ReZoom as a way not only to treat their cataracts but also to correct their presbyopia, the decline of reading vision that takes place over time.
When performing cataract surgery, Dr. Lewis removes the eye’s cataract-damaged natural lens and replaces it with an artificial lens. In the past, only monofocal lenses were available. These lenses are effective at treating cataracts but only allow for focused vision at one distance; thus, patients with monofocal lenses typically require glasses for reading and other up-close tasks. However, the latest multifocal IOLs, such as ReZoom, are able to provide clear vision at multiple distances – far, intermediate and near – thus eliminating the need for glasses for many patients.
ReZoom Lenses: Are They for Me?
ReZoom is marketed by Abbott Medical Optics (AMO), and it received FDA approval in 2005 for use in cataract surgery. Each ReZoom lens contains a central zone surrounded by four concentric rings, for a total of five zones. These five zones are designed to focus at different distances and in various light conditions. Taken together, they provide for clear vision across a full spectrum of distances and lighting situations.
One advantage of ReZoom lenses is that they are made of a flexible acrylic material that allows them to be folded. This permits Dr. Lewis to insert them into the eye through a very small incision, thus reducing the potential for complications.
In clinical trials for ReZoom, 92 percent of patients with ReZoom implants said they never or only occasionally required eyeglasses following surgery. Almost 82 percent of ReZoom patients said they never needed glasses for close (reading) vision following implantation with ReZoom lenses.
Dr. James S. Lewis is a highly regarded provider of cataract surgery Philadelphia patients trust due to his superlative surgical skills and rigorous commitment to patient safety. Besides offering ReZoom, he is pleased to make available a wide selection of premium IOLs, including Crystalens, nanoFLEX, AcrySof Toric and ReSTOR, to his Bucks County, Montgomery County, Elkins Park and Phoenixville cataracts patients.
